Anna Rathkopf: Learning about Breast Density after a cancer diagnosis
Anna Rathkopf, Cofounder of the Rathkopfs, shared a post on LinkedIn by Siobhan Freeney, Patient Advocate and Founder of Beingdense.com, adding:
“No one should have to learn about breast density the way I did – only after being diagnosed with breast cancer. I was lucky to find my cancer myself, but it shouldn’t come down to luck.”
Quoting Siobhan Freeney’s post.
“Ladies, your Mammogram will indicate whether you have Dense Breasts or not. You absolutely need to be told this because IF you have Dense Breasts a Mammogram may not be effective in ruling out the presence of Breast cancer so ask at your next Screening.
No woman should have to wait until after a Breast Cancer Diagnosis to find out that she has Dense Breasts and her Breast Cancer was not seen on her previous Mammogram(s).
Currently Women attending the Breast Check Screening Program Health Service Executive National Screening Service, HSE are not told anything about their Personal Breast Density.
Breast Density is an Independent Risk Factor for developing Breast Cancer and Up to 50% of Breast Cancers are missed on Mammograms in Women who have Dense Breasts.”
