Aparna Parikh, GI oncologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and Associate Professor at the Harvard Medical School, shared a post on LinkedIn by Amy Israel, adding:
“We still have a long way to go to achieve equitable access to cancer care across the continuum.
At the heart of every cancer discussion, we must ask: How are we going to get this to the 70% + of the world where the disease burden is highest, but access is the most limited?
Over the years, I’ve been told that focusing on access in resource-constrained settings is a distraction. But I believe the opposite: if we center our work around the places with the fewest resources, we push ourselves toward solutions that lead to better cancer care for everyone.
Equity isn’t the side story—it’s the main narrative.
