Amani Masaule: Cancer is a silent epidemic
Amani Masaule, Program Coordinator at Cancer Fight Tanzania, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Walking through hospital wards, seeing the faces of young and elderly patients battling cancer, is a heart-wrenching experience. Each bed tells a story of pain, courage, and a healthcare system struggling to meet the rising needs.
Cancer is a silent epidemic. According to the WHO, Tanzania sees over 42,000 new cancer cases annually, with more than 26,000 deaths – a devastating toll on families and communities. The most common cancers – cervical, breast, and prostate cancer in men – are often preventable or treatable if caught early.
Imagine the lives we could save if we prioritized:
- Screening programs to detect cancers like cervical and breast cancer early.
- Awareness campaigns about risk factors: smoking, unhealthy diets, and infections like HPV and hepatitis.
- Vaccination programs to protect young girls against HPV.
Together, We Can Make a Difference.
Every step we take today – raising awareness, improving access to healthcare, and investing in prevention—saves lives tomorrow. No one should suffer in silence, and no family should face this pain alone.
Let’s turn the tide against cancer in Tanzania. Together, we can build a healthier, brighter future.”
