Alique Topalian: Honored to Join the CPAT2025 Symposium and Speak Up for Policies That Protect Medicaid

Alique Topalian, Research Scientist of Survivorship and Supportive Services at the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Back in Washington DC with the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (Cancer Nation) to fight for Medicaid and cancer research. I advocate because cancer survivors like me deserve care that’s affordable, accessible, and compassionate. I’m honored to join the CPAT2025 Symposium and speak up for policies that protect Medicaid and fuel cancer research.

Cancer doesn’t end when treatment does—and neither should our care. Advocacy doesn’t stop when Hill Day ends. I’ll keep fighting for policies that support cancer survivors—because we all deserve a future beyond cancer.

What are our specific asks?

Medicaid:

1. Oppose Medicaid work reporting requirements. They strip coverage and create red tape that harms those with serious illnesses like cancer. Especially since if a child with cancer is over the age of 14 their parents will not qualify for exemption. Do you think a 15 year old can make their own medical decisions?
2. Protect provider funding and the financial sustainability of rural health systems.
3. Preserve Medicaid’s role as a lifeline for vulnerable patients.

Research:

1. REJECT the FY 2026 NIH budget proposal
2. MAINTAIN commitment to the NIH and US research
3. REJECT the consolidation of institutes and the cap on indirect costs
4. RESTORE canceled and terminated research grants that were funded with FY 2025 appropriations
