Adekemi Oyewusi: 25 years as a childhood cancer survivor

Adekemi Oyewusi, TMO Project Coordinator at OneHealth, posted on LinkedIn:

“A few weeks ago, I reached out to my friends, family, and mentors with an idea to celebrate two significant milestones in my life: my 35th birthday and 25 years as a childhood cancer survivor. The idea was to raise funds to support the medical treatment and education of those impacted by childhood cancer through a project very close to my heart, EDUCARE.

As someone who has always championed the cause of helping children not only survive but thrive, this initiative is deeply personal. I know firsthand the importance of access to care and support, as well as the grace of God, ‘Alhamdulillah’ in shaping my journey. Today, I am a proud Project Manager with over a decade of professional experience, contributing to the growth of our beloved country, Nigeria. I wouldn’t have achieved this if I hadn’t overcome cancer.

When I first shared this idea, it was met with overwhelming support from my circle, both at home and abroad, despite the many challenges we all face. For that, I am immensely grateful to everyone who has already contributed in one way or another.

Encouraged by this response, I’m now extending this call to my broader network. You never know who this mission might resonate with, or who might be inspired to support.

I’ve set an ambitious yet achievable goal to raise 35 million naira to kickstart this vision and create lasting change. This initiative is not just about raising funds; it’s about building a sustainable project that supports the healthcare and education of those affected by childhood cancer.

This campaign officially kicks off today, with the first phase of donations set to be distributed on December 14th, my birthday. On that day, we’ll disburse the funds raised during outreach sessions in hospitals across Lagos State, Osun State, and the FCT.

I would be honored to have your support in any way that feels meaningful to you. Whether it’s by donating, raising awareness, sharing my short documentary, or amplifying the campaign through your platform, your efforts could make a world of difference for those impacted by childhood cancer.

Thank you for joining me on this journey of hope, resilience, and impact. Let’s make this vision a reality together!

May God bless you!”
