Jim Murphy from ACS CAN California for January Volunteer Spotlight
American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) shared a post on LinkedIn:
“We’re excited to highlight Jim Murphy from ACS CAN California for our January Volunteer Spotlight!
Jim has been a volunteer since 2014 and currently serves as an Ambassador Constituent Lead.
Recently, Jim and other volunteers went to Congressman Jimmy Panetta‘s district office to discuss ACS CAN’s priorities for the 119th Congress’ first 100 days, including continuing the ACA enhanced tax credits, protecting Medicaid from cuts, and prioritizing cancer research funding.
Visits to offices like these are critical to move the needle in our fight against cancer.
As a three-time cancer survivor, Jim is passionate about making early detection as accessible as possible. Each of his cancer occurrences were detected early and that was critical to making his cancer experience more manageable. “Early detection is the key for everyone. It results in a better prognosis, better care, and lower costs.”
Jim was disappointed that the Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act was not included in the year-end legislative package. He and volunteers across the country made their voices heard about how critical early detection is. Jim is hopeful that the bill will be reintroduced by Congress soon this year and passed swiftly.”
