Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu: Honored to have participated in the African Women in Medicine, Health, and Wellness conference
Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu shared on LinkedIn:
“I am honored to have participated in the African Women in Medicine, Health, and Wellness conference organized by The Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (with support from Focus Africa ) in Abuja.
Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), representing female medical and dental practitioners across the country, brought together their vast expertise in all sub-specialties of medicine and public health for this event.
I had the privilege of speaking on a panel about ‘Leveraging Existing Platforms for Cervical Cancer Screening,’ where we discussed innovative strategies to improve early detection and treatment.
A few days earlier, the World Health Organization via its Director NCDs, Bente Mikkelsen, announced the prequalification of an additional HPV test, to be used on a high throughput platform in combination with self-sampling. Despite worries about cost, it represents a key development for expanding screening programs to help detection and prevention of cervical cancer.
I reemphasized the need to incentivize health workers and obtain their buy-into programs we expect them to run. Grateful to MWAN for the Award of Recognition in acknowledgment of my efforts to enhance the health and well-being of women in my community. MWAN’s exceptional work in championing health prospects, mobilization, health promotion, and screening services at community levels is truly commendable.
Congratulations to President Rosemary Ogu and her team, for an amazing conference, and wish them more success in their continued mission to improve healthcare across Africa!”
