Richard Scott: Exciting to see research carried out via the NHS Genomic Medicine Service
Richard Scott, CEO at Genomics England, shared on LinkedIn:
“Really exciting to see research today carried out via the NHS Genomic Medicine Service that showed whole genome sequencing can improve the care of children with cancer. We are proud to support the service.
In just under 30 per cent of cases, genome sequencing helped clinicians better understand children’s tumours and informed future management. And in some cases it changed the clinical management by providing information that wasn’t possible to acquire from standard of care tests.
A great example of using innovative technology to inform individualised care, and a powerful reminder of what we can do for patients with WGS as a part of routine healthcare.
Benefits for children with suspected cancer from routine whole-genome sequencing in Nature Medicine.”
