Richi Childhood Cancer Foundation launches a new series Faces of Hope at the Richi House

Richi Childhood Cancer Foundation shared on LinkedIn:

“As National Cancer Survivor Month is about to come to an end, we are excited to launch a new series, Faces of Hope at the Richi House. Our first post features none other than Richi Garcia Puig, the inspiration behind the Richi Childhood Cancer Foundation.

Richi was diagnosed at the age of five with medulloblastoma, an aggressive form of pediatric brain cancer. He is currently 18 years old and about to start a degree program in Environmental Science at Framingham State University. Richi describes himself as a vegetarian, a bodybuilder, an artist, and an environmentalist.

At the Richi House, Richi leads the charge in organizing activities for his peers during their monthly gatherings. ‘I always try to mix handicrafts and games to ensure everyone has a great time,’ explains Richi. ‘There’s often a theme, and with the help of my family and the rest of the Foundation’s team, we go the extra mile to surprise everyone.’

Inclusivity is a cornerstone of the Richi House, and Richi ensures that everyone can participate in the planned activities. ‘I love taking care of everyone and being in charge, but I won’t lie, I end up completely exhausted.’

This year, the Richi House welcomed its first cohort of teen and young adult brain cancer survivors. Looking ahead, Richi envisions hosting more groups while maintaining a close-knit atmosphere. ‘I want the next groups to remain small because it’s easier to connect with people. In large groups, someone might feel left out, and it’s crucial that we include everyone.’

Richi is also excited about future plans for the Richi House. ‘I’m looking forward to the greenhouse and the gym being built. I’m already thinking about activities to educate the community on the importance of eating healthy and exercising,’ explains Richi. ‘My goal is for the Richi House to be a place where childhood cancer survivors can build a community and truly be themselves.’

Richi’s artistic talents shine through as his amazing paintings, which he puts at the Foundation’s disposition to raise funds, adorn the walls of the first Richi House, bringing joy and inspiration to all who visit.

Stay tuned as we continue to share more inspiring stories of the incredible individuals who make up the Faces of Hope at the Richi House.”
