St. Baldrick’s Foundation – Using advanced cardiac imaging to detect cardiovascular dysfunction among childhood cancer survivors
St. Baldrick’s Foundation shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Cardiovascular disease is the second leading cause of mortality among childhood cancer survivors (CCS). St. Baldrick’s Scholar, Dr. Wendy Bottinor at VCU Health, aims to help CCS live healthier lives by using advanced cardiac imaging to detect cardiovascular dysfunction before it becomes overt heart disease.
Through her research, she plans to use echocardiographic imaging to detect cardiovascular disease at its earliest stages, when treatment is most effective. By analyzing routine cardiac screenings, Dr. Bottinor and her team can predict which CCS are at risk and benefit from early intervention. This research could lead to updated cardiac screening guidelines, improving outcomes for CCS.
Cancer Free Isn’t Free and you can help fund lifesaving research so kids with cancer survive and thrive: ”
