Susan Galbraith: I am passionate about supporting the next generation of female leaders in STEM
Susan Galbraith, Executive Vice President in Oncology R&D at AstraZeneca, shared on LinkedIn:
“It was great to spend time at EACR2024 where I had the opportunity to share the work we are doing in Computational Pathology at AstraZeneca. I’m really excited about the potential of Computational Pathology and believe it will help us identify patients who will benefit the most from treatment with antibody-drug conjugates and other modalities, and better predict clinical outcomes.
I also had the privilege of recognizing the two recipients of the EACR-AstraZeneca Postdoctoral Fellowship, which celebrates outstanding members in the early stages of their careers. Congratulations Irene Casanova Salas and Magda Sznurkowska, who are both conducting innovative research into circulating tumour cells and therapy resistance. I look forward to seeing the progress of your research.
I am passionate about supporting the next generation of female leaders in STEM, and so I was also fortunate to meet with a small group of up-and-coming women in science from across 16 countries. I spoke to this group about my career and how I drive motivation and foster unconventional ideas across the teams I work with. If I distil it down, my key advice was to find good mentors, accept that there will be highs and lows, practice self-reflection, invest in your network – and have fun along the way! In addition to my talk, this session featured an insightful panel discussion with the formidable Professor Caroline Dive. CBE, Johanna Joyce, Yardena Samuels and Sheila Singh.
Thank you to Jane Smith and the organisers of EACR for a great meeting!”
