Lisa Lacasse: Hearing on Combatting the Youth Vaping Epidemic

Lisa Lacasse shared a post by ACS CAN on LinkedIn

“Thanks, Chairman Durbin and the Senate Judiciary Committee for holding a hearing today titled, “Combatting the Youth Vaping Epidemic by Enhancing Enforcement Against Illegal E-Cigarettes.”

Quoting ACS CAN’s post:

“ACS CAN thanks Chairman Durbin and the Senate Judiciary Committee for holding a hearing today titled, “Combatting the Youth Vaping Epidemic by Enhancing Enforcement Against Illegal E-Cigarettes.”

Just last month, ACS CAN and 77 leading public health organizations sent a letter to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and its enforcement partners at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Then, it urged them to use all the enforcement tools at their disposal against manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers and retailers to clear the market of unauthorized e-cigarette products, including flavored products that put young people at risk for nicotine addiction and other significant health harms.

ACS CAN is pleased to hear that the FDA and DOJ are establishing a federal multi-agency task force to combat the distribution and sale of illegal e-cigarettes, however, this task force will only be successful if it takes immediate action.

This means that all illegal e-cigarettes should be removed from the market immediately, especially flavored products that are intentionally marketed toward children.
