“Our Icon Cancer Centre – Australia & New Zealand teams across the country love getting behind Daffodil Day to raise funds and awareness for the Cancer Council.
The information and support services they provide makes a world of difference for our patients and their families, not to mention the lifesaving breakthroughs in cancer research over the years.
We couldn’t do what we do without their valued support.
That’s why I was honoured to attend yesterday’s Cancer Council Queensland Daffodil Day: Navigating Cancer Together breakfast in Brisbane.
Thank you to Cancer Council Queensland Board Chair, Robert Gregg and CEO, Andrew Donne and COO Balveen Ajimal for inviting me to join this year’s panel to discuss the challenges and opportunities within the sector, as we explore how to best navigate cancer care together to improve services for patients and their families across Queensland.
It was great to join fellow panellists:
Brittany Lauga MP, Assistant Minister for Health and Regional Health Infrastructure
Sandy Cham, General Manager of Services at Canteen
John-McLeod, Senior Research Consultant at JBWere
Professor Joanne Aitken, Director of Research at Cancer Council Queensland.
I spoke about how Icon is addressing the ongoing need for survivorship support and how organisations can better collaborate to share patient driven insights. Last year, Icon Group surveyed over 600 cancer patients across the country to get a better understanding of the hidden burdens faced by patients, with a view to drive informed decision-making and close the gaps in care. Through the survey, patients told us they want a system that talks to each other and provides a connected, holistic service that involves them every step of the way.
We can offer the best cancer care in the world but if people feel lost in the system, they can’t benefit from it. Icon is committed to creating real change for people with cancer and we believe collaboration across silos and geographies will achieve that. By coming together, we can evolve the cancer care landscape and improve outcomes for patients now and into the future.”
