First time ever the world has resolved to eliminate a Cancer
The global community has continued to rally behind World Health Organization DG Dr Tedros’ Call to Action to eliminate cervical cancer. On the sidelines of the World Health Assembly, this morning the governments of Australia, Bangladesh, Colombia, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Malawi, Nigeria, Zambia and the United States of America, together with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, UNICEF, World Economic Forum, and @ACTION Global Health Advocacy Partnership brought together stakeholders and partners to examine how we can join forces together to accelerate cervical cancer elimination. WHO Assistant Director-General Professor Jérôme SALOMON opened the discussion with a reminder of the extreme inequity of this preventable disease and the historic nature of the Global Strategy and the resolution that adopted it — the first time ever the world has resolved to eliminate a cancer and i was honored to give the overview of the achievements for the Cervical Cancer Elimination Initiative.
