Stacie Lindsey, CEO at Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, shared a post by Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation on LinkedIn, adding:
“Advocacy plays a crucial role in medical advancements by promoting patient involvement in clinical trials, which can lead to new treatments. Melinda Bachini’s story exemplifies how self-advocacy and participation in a clinical trial can extend life and contribute to the progress in treating cholangiocarcinoma, inspiring hope, and resilience in others facing similar challenges.”
Quoting Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation’s post:
“Patient 3737 is our very own Melinda Bachini!
Ten years ago, Melinda, Patient 3737, one of Rosenburg’s patients in his groundbreaking clinical trial, was identified. She shared her story with the world and became an inspiration to millions.
After being diagnosed with stage IV cholangiocarcinoma, she was told she had just a few months left to live, but Rosenberg changed everything with forward thinking and DNA.
Knowing she had to advocate for herself, Melinda enrolled in a National Institutes of Health (NIH) clinical trial, knowing medical advancements are made to save lives. Melinda’s remarkable response to the treatment was featured in national news, and hope spread.
Fast forward ten years, and Melinda is Chief Patient Officer for the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, advising clinical trial design, providing personal counsel to hundreds of patients, and enjoying her time as a doting grandmother and outdoor enthusiast.
Here’s to Melinda, a true symbol of hope, resilience, and the power of advocacy!”
