Mohd Aamir Qureshi: Research grant of INR 2.25 Crores has been accepted and sanctioned by the prestigious ICMR New Delhi

Mohd Aamir Qureshi, Researcher of Radiation Oncology, JN Medial College Aligarh Muslim University shared a post on LinkedIn:

“I am thrilled to share with you that a research grant of INR 2.25 Crores written by me entitled ” Characterization of gut dysbiosis in Gastrointestinal Malignancies and exploration of probiotics supplementation on therapeutic outcome in patients receiving chemoradiation in these Malignancies ” has been accepted and sanctioned by the prestigious ICMR – New Delhi- India. I am highly thankful to Prof Akram , my guide and Chairman, Department of Radiation Oncology, AMU for his guidance and support.

One of the notable objectives of the project is its focus on exploring the potential benefits of probiotics supplementation alongside the conventional chemoradiation therapy in patients with GI cancers, to reduce the toxicities and increase the treatment outcome in cancer patients. Our team aspires to enhance efficacy of existing treatment modalities and potentially mitigate the adverse effects of the chemoradiation regimen. The study will also involve Metagenomics approaches to characterize the gut dysbiosis related to GI cancers.

Incidences of GI Malignancies including esophagus, colon and anal canal cancers are increasing worldwide and gut dysbiosis is one of the factors linked to the etiopathogenesis of these Malignancies. GI cancers accounts for more than 26% of the world’s cancer incidences and 35% of all cancer related deaths.

We also conducted 3 – days National Workshop on Microbiome and Cancer whose main objective was bridging the gaps between the researchers and clinicians. The participants received hands on training in various molecular biology, Microbiology, Pathology techniques followed by Metagenomics session.

some glimpses of the session are attached here.”
