” Excited to share our latest publication in Elsevier’s Brachytherapy journal!
Role of Simulation-Based Training and Assessment to Improve Brachytherapy Competency Among Radiation Oncology Residents.
Our review dives into the pivotal role of simulation-based training (SBT) in radiation oncology, particularly brachytherapy—a critical yet underutilized cancer treatment. Despite its proven benefits, many residents enter the field feeling underprepared for these complex procedures.
Highlights:
Analysis of existing simulation approaches and their impact on improving resident confidence and skills.
The development of a structured simulation curriculum aligned with Kern’s six-step approach.
Future directions for integrating more advanced simulations, including AI-driven models, to enhance training effectiveness and precision.
A huge thank you to the exceptionally talented lead author Dr. Ria Mulherkar and our co-authors Chirag Shah, Mitchell Bulat, Mitchell Kamrava, and the unparalleled Sushil Beriwal for their invaluable contributions and insights.
We believe that robust simulation-based education can significantly bridge the gap in brachytherapy training, ensuring that new specialists are well-equipped to deliver high-quality, precise cancer care. AI/ML will play an increasing role in AR/VR during the training process.
Feel free to reach out if you’re interested in discussing the potential of simulation in medical education or looking to collaborate on future projects!”
