The study aimed to explore the etiopathogenesis of gallbladder premalignancy and malignancy through heavy metal analysis in gallstones.
Finding various heavy metals present in gallstones were found to play a crucial role in the development of premalignant and malignant conditions of the gallbladder.
Higher levels of arsenic were detected in gallbladder cancer samples compared to controls, supporting the carcinogenic effect of arsenic in a subset of gallbladder cancer patients.
Statistically, gallbladder cancer was found to be the highest in Gangetic West Bengal, India, and the second highest in the world.
— These findings underscore the importance of understanding the impact of arsenic exposure on gallbladder cancer development.”
