“A starring role in a hit TV show. A successful Hollywood career. Three blissful years of being cancer-free. And then, the call.
In this week’s Cancer Culture, the deliciously honest Mo Collins (MadTV, Parks and Recreation, Fear the Walking Dead) shares her experience of being diagnosed, treated and then treated again for GI Stromal Tumor, commonly know as gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST).
Mo writes, ‘Can I tell you what was so hard? Feeling like a failure as a ‘cancer survivor’. That TITLE! I lost my survivor cred!! Here’s something I gleaned in those few weeks of hard reconciliation: Survivor is a title to be held from the MOMENT of diagnosis, to the day one sheds their Earth-suit.’
