Olubukola Ayodele: I had the pleasure of meeting with Daniel Heng, the creator of the IMDC prognostic risk criteria for aRCC

Olubukola Ayodele, Consultant Medical Oncologist at University Hospitals of Leicester Cancer Research Centre, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“I had the pleasure of meeting with Daniel Heng, the creator of the IMDC prognostic risk criteria for aRCC. While this criteria has traditionally been used to determine patient treatment, we are now recognising that a patient’s biology plays a crucial role in treatment decisions. Pathologists cannot simply provide histological reports as renal cell carcinoma or clear/non-clear cell RCC. Instead, we need to identify the molecular subtype, which serves as an important prognostic and predictive indicator of response to systemic therapy, superseding the significance of the IMDC risk.”
