“Radon and Lung Cancer: Understanding the Risks Beyond Smoking
Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, and not just among smokers. Surprisingly, many non-smokers are also affected. In the USA, lung and bronchus cancer tops the charts with an expected 125,070 deaths this year. But what’s causing this in non-smokers?
One significant risk factor is Radon gas, commonly found in homes across the USA and globally. The radon gas is a naturally occurring, colorless, smell-less radioactive gas that can cause lung cancer. The radon gas is produced from Uranium –> Radium –> Radon gas . The US Environmental Protection Agency estimates that Radon causes about 21,000 lung cancer deaths annually, including 2,900 non-smokers.
If you’re interested in learning more, please check out the Radon map for the USA and consider testing your home. Effective mitigation systems are available to address this invisible threat. Stay informed and take action to protect your health!”
