Libia Scheller: I am grateful as a friend, a researcher, and an entrepreneur… Thank you Marge for all you do
“In the nascent stages of my professional journey, I recognized the invaluable significance of mentorship and sought to emulate the accomplishments of influential and esteemed women who have contributed significantly to societal progress.
Throughout my career trajectory, I have actively sought guidance and inspiration from distinguished female figures who epitomize intellect, resilience, and success. Dr. Margaret Foti stands prominently among these luminaries, her illustrious career marked by transformative contributions to the field of cancer research. Over a span of 25 years, Dr. Foti has epitomized leadership qualities that I have revered and aspired to emulate, serving as a beacon of inspiration in my professional endeavors.
Margaret Foti, PhD, MD (hc), serves as the esteemed chief executive officer of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), the world’s foremost cancer research organization. Throughout her tenure, Foti has orchestrated remarkable growth, expanding AACR’s membership from 3,000 to over 58,000 across 141 countries and territories, and increasing its portfolio of peer-reviewed scientific journals from one to ten.
Her pioneering efforts include the launch of nine additional major scientific journals and the creation of publications like Cancer Today and Leading Discoveries. A graduate of Temple University, Foti’s influential leadership extends beyond AACR, shaping the landscape of cancer research globally. She has been honored with numerous awards, including honorary degrees and accolades from prestigious organizations worldwide.
Foti’s visionary leadership at AACR has been instrumental in groundbreaking initiatives such as serving as the Scientific Partner of Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) and producing landmark annual reports advocating for increased federal funding for cancer research. Her legacy is further solidified through the mentorship and support she provides to aspiring scientists, particularly women and minority researchers. Foti’s unwavering dedication to advancing cancer research continues to drive the field forward toward the ultimate goal of eradicating cancer.
