What mattered most to Susan Love was the research and her vision for a world without breast cancer – Christopher Clinton Conway

The Vision

What mattered most to Susan Love was the research and her vision for a world without breast cancer.

That’s what she told me when I came to work for the Foundation five years ago, and that was always true for Susan. Her vision was clear and sharp. And, she was already a celebrity; the Foundation flourished based on her name, her work, her renown. I was brought in to analyze the financials, cultivate connections, and increase name recognition for the organization.

So we each had our assignments: Dr. Love continued to travel and attend conferences as a speaker and as an active participant in the research. She was active in the Twittersphere and was known to discuss recent findings in educational journals that might contribute to the Foundation’s vision. My role was to make it clear how much this work matters, amplify the successes, cultivate giving, and ensure that the work continues as long as there is work to do.

The truth is, while Dr. Love literally blazed a path, we actually don’t know how much longer the path is, and, we can’t even really pause for long to speculate about what it might be.

We just need to continue as a catalyst in Susan’s style, and hope that the findings, the breakthroughs and the innovations that Susan Love initiated keep coming. So my work is hardly done. Along with our generous partners, I am developing projects and channels to honor Susan’s life, and her loss, by doing more. In the coming weeks and months, we’ll let you know more about these plans, and how you can be involved. The world without breast cancer lies in the future, and we will need one another to get there, with Susan’s vision guiding the way.
