Isabel Mestres: Join me in welcoming the 15th city of the City Cancer Challenge network: Concepción in Chile
Isabel Mestres, CEO at City Cancer Challenge Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Join me in welcoming the 15th city of the City Cancer Challenge network: Concepción in Chile.
– Concepción is a metropolitan area in the Biobío Region, serving a population of 2.2 million people.
– Cancer has been the first cause of death since 2018, with 4,000 new cases every year and almost 3,000 deaths per year.
– Concepción is home to the oldest (>100 years) and most prestigious institution in Chile, the Universidad de Concepción.
What made Concepción’s application successful?
– Unified Commitment: National cancer groups, the Health Services, and local government strongly supported Concepción’s bid to become a C/Can city and a hub for cancer development in southern Chile.
– Legal Momentum: The 2020 National Cancer Law serves as a significant framework for implementing cancer initiatives in Concepción.
– Collaborative Environment: Concepción demonstrates openness to cross-sector collaboration, evident in strong alliances formed during the C/Can application process.
Thank you to everyone involved in the application led by the Universidad de Concepción and supported by the City Health Services, the National Cancer Forum, the City of Concepcion, the State Government of BioBio and the National Ministry of Health of Chile.
Special thank you to Samuel Riffo Luengo, Carolina Goic, Ana María Moraga Palacios, Rodrigo Ascui, Martin Zilic and Patricio Munoz Jara for your passion, tenacity and resilience to make C/Can Concepcion a reality. ”
