Emilio Goldenhersch: Taking Action in the Cancer and Workplace Industries: Inspiration and Commitment [highlights from SXSW]

Emilio Goldenhersch, Co-Founder & CEO of MindCo Health, posted the following on LinkedIn:

“Taking Action in the Cancer and Workplace Industries: Inspiration and Commitment [highlights from SXSW].

How often have you been in a conference – online or in person – hearing “key leaders” in an industry you like to share how and what everyone should do to make a change? Kind of talking on the sky and not really grounded. Many, many times.

This time was an exception. I had the pleasure of attending specific workshops and panels at SXSW 2024, where I learned that the WHY of our work remains relevant, but the HOW needs to change. Collaboration is key to achieving real results in the cancer and workplace industries.

Some of the highlights:
• Access and coverage are not the same, and everyone should be educated about why; Harlan Levine
• Enough of having conversations about mental health in the workplace as isolated events; Melissa Doman, M.A.
• Women and people of color are being left out of the system systematically, and we all need to act to change this; Ysabel Duron

I left one of the panels on cancer with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) CEO Karen Knudsen‘s call to action: Next time you have a doctor’s appointment, ask about which cancer screening is appropriate for you.

In a later conversation with Ysabel from The Latino Cancer Institute, we discussed that underserved or underrepresented communities don’t even dare ask because they need to start thinking about how they will pay for it. Financial toxicity is a reality.

And in the middle of all of it: The Lack of Access to MENTAL HEALTH CARE.

I felt inspired, and I am grateful for their willingness to share. Thank you.”
