Nirmala Bhoo Pathy: Collaboration is key to achieving cancer control

shared a post by Kim Lim, President at

“Collaboration is key to achieving cancer control and getting our cancer NGOs to work together amplifies the patient voice.

We took our first step in Malaysia. Kudos to National Cancer Society Malaysia and Ministry of Health Malaysia for providing the platform.”

Quoting Kim Lim’s post:

“Yesterday, the World Cancer Day Event held at University Cyberjaya graced by the Health Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, saw 23 cancer NGOs joined forces to pledge a united front in the battle against cancer. Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia is honored to have been part of this successful event organized by National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM).

It is crucial to recognize that cancer is not just a concern for individuals, but for everyone, encompassing not only early detection and treatment but also financial, psychological, and employment aspects for those impacted.

With approximately 1 in every 10 individuals in Malaysia will receive a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, it is clear that comprehensive support is essential.

As we reflect on this, it is evident that there are numerous gaps and opportunities for improvement, which Nirmala Bhoo Pathy wisely emphasized the importance of not just highlighting the problems, but also bringing forth solutions to the table.

Together, we can strive for better outcomes in our collective fight against cancer. Let’s join hands and work collaboratively with all stakeholders to combat cancer together.

I especially liked this phrase by Nur Aishah Mohd Taib that “It is time we build ecosystems and remove “ego” systems”.

“Together We Can Do Better” and making it everyone’s business to Closing the Care Gap.”
