Emma M. Groarke: We found that there was more than 40% cumulative incidence of venous and arterial thrombosis in patients with VEXAS
Emma M. Groarke, Hematologist at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), shared a post on X/Twitter:
“Very excited to share our NIH-Mayo Clinic collaboration just published in Blood Journal focused on the thrombotic manifestations occurring in VEXAS.
We found that there was >40% cumulative incidence of venous and arterial thrombosis in patients with VEXAS; many events occurred at initial disease presentation. Cardiac or pulmonary involvement appear to confer increased risk.
Thrombosis seems to be driven by inflammation. Patients almost ubiquitously had high FVIII levels and many had high VWD antigen and activity.”
