Mark Lewis: I’ve heard it said that chemo dosing is the closest a medical oncologist can get to a surgeon’s level of precision
Mark Lewis shared a post on X/Twitter:
“I’ve heard it said that chemo dosing is the closest a medical oncologist can get to a surgeon’s level of precision
In this analogy, insurers are guiding our hand and telling us where to cut (or if we can operate at all!) Worst of all it’s the patients who suffer the complications
To wit:
I hear you but capecitabine is a perfect example of why this is misguided (the “standard starting dose” is set far above what almost any of my US patients can tolerate)
It’s pennywise, pound-foolish if the patient is then hospitalized with complications”
