“This morning at ESMOGI2025, I had the honour of giving a keynote on a topic that should be central to every cancer conversation: the patient experience. From misdiagnosed symptoms in young adults to overlooked fertility risks and inaccessible nutritional support.
We need to do more to help patients navigate their journey. We have to:
- Diagnose earlier, especially in younger people
- Demystify biomarker testing
- Support fertility, nutrition, and mental health needs
- Simplify how we talk about treatment and prognosis
- Shift from one-size-fits-all care to truly personalised plans
At Digestive Cancers Europe, we work to improve healthcare services and outcomes for younger patients with digestive cancers. We are currently mapping healthcare providers’ awareness and preparedness in diagnosing and supporting patients aged 18 to 49 with early-onset digestive cancers. Take the survey.”
