Françoise Meunier: European Cancer Week – Survival Must Come with Rights
Françoise Meunier, Founder of the European Initiative on Ending Discrimination Against Cancer Survivors, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“European Cancer Week: Survival Must Come with Rights
This week, as we mark European Cancer Week, and especially today, as the day dedicated to survivors, we must remember the numerous challenges that cancer survivors face, even after overcoming their cancer. For far too many cancer survivors across Europe, life after cancer means facing continued injustice—from barriers to financial services, to discrimination in employment and insurance.
We must act. A cancer diagnosis should not follow someone for the rest of their life. That is why I continue to urge the European Union to adopt a binding, EU-wide harmonised legal framework around Right to Be Forgotten. Survivors should not be penalised for having overcome cancer—they should be protected, supported, and empowered to rebuild their lives without stigma.
Today is not only a day of awareness. It must be a call to action and it is about human rights ! We owe it to the millions of Europeans living beyond cancer to ensure that survival leads not just to more years—but to better, fairer ones.
Say no to discrimination. Say yes to dignity, equality, and a truly supportive Europe for every survivor.”
