“Foundation S: Challenging the status quo and driving change for vulnerable communities.
In 2023, our collective responded to unprecedented challenges, showcasing the power of public/private partnerships to raise awareness about pressing health issues and advancing initiatives to ensure the health and welfare of the most vulnerable. While we look ahead to 2024, we note the achievements of 2023 that we will build on:
Climate Change and Health:
The climate and health nexus took center stage in 2023 and was a key topic at events like COP28 UAE where the first ever “Health Day” was held. Together with our Collective Minds Council, we published the Time to Adapt Action Report, raising awareness on innovative ways communities are adapting to health impacts of climate change. Local engagement is crucial for success. Foundation S supports 22 adaptation projects through its grant program, collaborating with other advocates for climate and health to support local innovators through the Global Grand Challenges. Tremendous progress has been made and we will continue to build momentum in 2024.
My Child Matters: Over 148,000 children supported, 47,000 HCPs trained
With our partners, Foundation S continues to accelerate initiatives toward the World Health Organization goal of a minimum 60% survival rate for all children with cancer, with a particular focus on addressing disparities in treatment outcomes. Highlights for the year include launch of our Open Data Platform, support of 31 new program grants and launch of the Home Away from Home Program. In September, 734 Sanofians joined with Imagine for Margo – Children without Cancer to raise awareness and funds for this vital fight.
Sleeping Sickness: A step closer to elimination
Continuing our commitment to eliminate sleeping sickness by 2030, we took a significant step with Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative – DNDi. The first oral treatment for the acute form (rhodesiense) received a positive opinion from the European Medicines Agency. We strive to bring this option to patients in East and South Africa, advancing towards elimination.
Humanitarian Aid and Medicine Donations
In 2023, Foundation S supported displaced populations affected by crises with medicine donations and humanitarian aid. Through global partnerships, we assisted over 400,000 patients with 9 million daily treatments, impacting a total of 22 million lives since our inception.
A Year for Impact, A Future for Collaboration
This year showcased the strength of collaboration and collective action. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to partners for their unwavering support, enabling these achievements. Looking forward, we are eager to amplify efforts, striving for greater positive change in the coming year.”
