Hayley Jones: Another fantastic year at the McCabe Centre for Law and Cancer
Hayley Jones, Director at McCabe Centre for Law and Cancer, shared on LinkedIn:
“It has been another fantastic year at the McCabe Centre for Law and Cancer!
As a snapshot, we have:
Celebrated ten years hosting the Knowledge Hub on Legal Challenges to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control!
Shone a spotlight on women, power and cancer, and the role of law, through work on the Lancet Commission.
Contributed to 19 submissions to governments and others on diverse issues like tobacco and e-cigarette regulation, carer’s rights, UHC, the pandemic treaty and more.
Appeared on radio discussing costs of cancer in Australia, and in a documentary about tobacco exploitation in Africa.
Expanded our network of lawyers and civil society leaders with expertise in using law to prevent and control cancer and other NCDs, through two major online training courses and a Pacific regional workshop on tobacco control.
Celebrated alumni achievements in reducing the cancer and NCD burden in their countries and regions.
Welcomed new members to our team, and said au revoir to some stellar colleagues.
The wonderful McCabe Centre team based in Australia, Kenya, New Zealand, Fiji and The Philippines worked so hard to make all of this success possible – a heartfelt thanks for all of your efforts.
Thank you to our founding partners Cancer Council Victoria, the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and Cancer Council Australia for your collaboration, and to all of our supporters around the world. Together, we are making a difference for people affected by cancer; and reducing the chances of others having their lives impacted by NCDs.”
