Chandler Park: Great privilege to advocate for cancer patients at the 2025 ASCO Advocacy Summit
Chandler Park, Advisory Dean and Clinical Professor at University of Louisville School of Medicine, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Great privilege and honor to advocate for our cancer patients with my friends and colleagues in Washington D.C. at the 2025 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Advocacy Summit.
Key points include:
- INCREASE cancer research funding. Many patients with Stage 4 cancers have been CURED with immunotherapy. But some patients do not respond to current immunotherapy treatments . We need to improve improve current immunotherapy, antibody drug conjugate, and radiologand treatments. This requires increasing research funding.
- FIX prior authorization for medications, diagnostic tests, and imaging studies . Reintroduce Senior Act. All patients should have access to Category 1 (Best) National Comprehensive Cancer Network® (NCCN®) treatments for their cancers but they don’t have access due to Prior Authorizations.
- IMPROVE drug shortages for our cancer patients by incentivizing companies to make production more affordable. There should not be a shortage of curative medications such as BCG for bladder cancer and Carboplatin for testicular cancer.
Also loved the great ASCO leadership including Dr. Julie Gralow, Dr. Robin Zon, Dr. Clifford Hudis and the phenomenal ASCO staff and volunteers. Thank you for making this an outstanding summit for our patients.”
