“New publication in The Breast!
Clinical characteristics and prognostic factors in patients with breast cancer and leptomeningeal metastases from a large registry of BMBC.
Leptomeningeal metastases (LM) in breast cancer patients are associated with a poor prognosis. In our latest study, published in the renowned journal The Breast and led by PD Dr. med. Elena Laakmann, we analyzed clinical characteristics and prognostic factors in patients with LM from the German Brain Metastases in Breast Cancer Registry.
Key Findings:
- Patients with LM had a median overall survival of 5.7 months.
- Factors such as older age, poorer performance status, and specific tumor subtypes were associated with worse prognosis.
- Treatments like stereotactic radiotherapy, whole-brain irradiation, endocrine therapy in HR+ tumors, and HER2-targeted therapy significantly improved survival.
These insights support the optimization of personalized treatment strategies and help guide (de-)escalation approaches in clinical trials.
A huge thank you to all co-authors for their dedication and hard work!
