Enes Erul: Insulin resistance and cancer
Enes Erul, Oncology Fellow at Ankara University, shared a post on LinkedIn about recent paper by Alfredo Caturano et al., titled “Insulin resistance and cancer: molecular links and clinical perspectives” published on Springer Link Nature.
Authors: Alfredo Caturano, Enes Erul, Roberto Nilo, Davide Nilo, Vincenzo Russo, Luca Rinaldi, Carlo Acierno, Maria Gemelli, Riccardo Ricotta, Ferdinando Carlo Sasso, Antonio Giordano, Caterina Conte, Yüksel Ürün
“Insulin resistance and cancer: A growing link!
Key Findings:
- Individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) face a 10-20% increased risk of developing solid tumors (colorectal, breast, pancreatic, liver).
- Hyperinsulinemia triggers cancer-related pathways (MAPK and PI3K), fueling tumor growth and survival.
- Chronic inflammation and altered lipid metabolism create a pro-tumorigenic environment.
- Addressing insulin resistance could open new doors for early intervention and integrated treatment strategies.
Collaboration is the key! There is much more to come with my dear friend Alfredo Caturano.
Special thanks to my mentor Prof. Yüksel Ürun for his guidance and support.”
