Robby Spring: We are seeing a rise in breast cancer cases in women under 50
Robby Spring, Principal Consultant at Robby Spring Consulting, shared on LinkedIn:
“I was on CTV News last night, speaking about the increasing number of younger women being diagnosed with breast cancer.
We are seeing a rise in breast cancer cases, and it’s especially concerning in women under 50. This reinforces the need for consistent, evidence-based screening programs across Canada. Right now, screening guidelines vary by province, and the Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care recommendations differ from those in the U.S. We need clear, standardized guidance so breast cancer can be detected and treated as early as possible.
I continue to share my family’s story – not to create fear, but to empower women to advocate for themselves. Trust your instincts. If you believe you need to get screened, push for it. Family history alone doesn’t always grant access to high-risk screening (I wasn’t, despite multiple diagnoses in my family).
As a reminder, know your breast density. If you have category C or D dense breasts, ask about a supplementary ultrasound or MRI.
Thank you to CTV News and Adrian Ghobrial for covering this important issue. The more awareness we raise, the more we can push for change.”
