Atul Gawande: More than 800 contracts and awards are being terminated en masse
Atul Gawande, Surgeon of general and endocrine surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, shared a post on X:
“From independent USAID sources, >800 contracts & awards are being terminated en masse – w the procurement team subject to hourly checks/targets on speed of executing on these terminations.
The pace has exceeded the ability to confirm whether lifesaving assistance is affected.”
Aparna Raj Parikh, Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and a Gastrointestinal Oncologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, reshared the post on X, adding:
“Confirmed from a friend on the ground that there are pregnant women in Africa showing up saying there are no ARVs for them & that started almost immediately in some places.
some clinics were not even allowed to dispense drugs that were stocked on shelves. It’s just awful.”
