Elene Kekelia: Excited to be a C/Can Seed Grant 2024 recipient
Elene Kekelia, University Lecturer at Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy (TMA), shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Excited to be a C/Can Seed Grant 2024 recipient!
Grateful for the chance to support locally-driven cancer research in Georgia.
Huge thanks to City Cancer Challenge (C/Can) for this incredible opportunity!”
Quoting City Cancer Challenge‘s post:
“At City Cancer Challenge (C/Can), we know that locally-led research is key to strengthening health systems and ensuring equitable access to cancer care.
That’s why, for the second consecutive year, we are supporting early-stage research through our Seed Grant Initiative.
Congratulations to the seven outstanding researchers selected for the 2024 grants!
Their work will help generate evidence-based solutions tailored to the needs of their communities:
- Conrad Batuure (Kumasi, Ghana)
- Diane Woei-Quan Chong (Greater Petaling, Malaysia)
- Elene Kekelia (Tbilisi, Georgia)
- Yelda Leal (León, Mexico)
- Livia L. Martínez Ocola (Arequipa, Peru)
- María Encarnación Alonso (Rosario, Argentina)
- Dr Lucas K Nyabero (Nairobi, Kenya)
With only 0.5% of global cancer research funding directed toward LMICs—despite these regions bearing 70% of cancer mortality—initiatives like this are critical to addressing disparities and advancing sustainable cancer care solutions.
