“Last week, I had the opportunity to speak with journalists from TVC, Channels TV, and NTA on Nigeria’s progress in cancer advocacy and care. We reflected on this year’s World Cancer Day theme, ‘United by Unique,’ emphasizing a people-centered approach that sees the person before the disease and champions personalized care.
Our discussions highlighted the strides Nigeria has made in cancer control, while also addressing persistent challenges—insufficient funding, weak cancer registries, poor documentation, and the growing exodus of oncologists and healthcare professionals, which continues to strain our healthcare system. In addition, I spoke about nutrition in cancer prevention and the importance of healthier lifestyle choices.
These conversations are vital in driving the change we seek in Nigeria’s cancer care landscape.”
