Voice of the families, Kneeper Ashraf and his mother – CANCaRe Africa
CANCaRe Africa posted on LinkedIn:
“Voice of the families, Post 27 Kneeper Ashraf and his mother.
Please meet Kneeper Ashraf, a 9-year-old boy from Kasese district, located 150 km from Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital (MRRH), who presented with a 3-week history of bleeding episodes, fever, and generalized body weakness. He was diagnosed with leukemia, a cancer of blood cells. His treatment requires him to stay in the hospital most of the time. The mother had to stop working and also come along with a nursing baby who could not be left at home with the father and siblings. The father is a mechanic, the mother a tailor. They have five sons, Ashraf being the firstborn. The other siblings are well; some go to school, while others stay home.
Ashraf and the mum have stayed in the hospital entirely for over three months now, receiving treatment. His remarkable response to therapy has restored the mother’s hope for the child’s cure and impressed the clinical team, thanks in large part, to the support of funds from the Zero Abandonment project, for which the family is grateful.
Appropriate consent given.”
