Toufic Kachaamy: Bridging the Gap Between Gastroenterology and Oncology

Toufic Kachaamy, Chief of Medicine and Medical Director of Gastroenterology at City of Hope Phoenix, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Bridging the Gap Between Gastroenterology and Oncology: The Future of Endoscopic Oncology.

I recently had the pleasure of joining Mankanwal Sachdev on his Interventional Endoscopist Podcast to discuss a topic that is shaping the future of cancer care: Endoscopic Oncology.

This field is rapidly evolving, bringing together interventional endoscopists, oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, and other specialists to redefine how we diagnose, stage, and treat cancer. Multidisciplinary collaboration is at the heart of modern cancer care, and yet, many specialists remain siloed in their own fields. Bridging these gaps is essential for innovation.

In our conversation, we explored:

  • The growing role of endoscopy in cancer care and its impact on treatment decisions.
  • The need for better cross-disciplinary education—oncologists need to understand what we do, and we need to understand their world.
  • The importance of team-based care – cancer treatment isn’t a one-person job, and understanding when to intervene is just as important as knowing how.
  • The upcoming Endoscopic Oncology and Mulitidisciplinary GI Cancer Care Conference (April 5-6, Las Vegas) – a meeting dedicated to breaking down barriers between disciplines and pushing the field forward.

This course started with a simple idea: creating a space for these critical conversations that aren’t happening elsewhere. Today, it’s growing into the premier forum where experts from different fields share cutting-edge techniques and ideas.

If you’re involved in GI, oncology, surgery, interventional radiology, or any field related to cancer care, this is the conversation we need to be having.

Big thank you to Mankanwal Sachdev for the engaging discussion.

Would love to hear your thoughts – how do you see endoscopic oncology shaping the future of cancer care?”
