Douglas Flora: How community oncology should be done
Douglas Flora, Executive Medical Director of Young Family Cancer Center at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, posted on LinkedIn:
“Memphis is showing us how community oncology should be done. The 10th Annual West Oncology Conference brought together leading minds committed to bringing clinical trials and cutting-edge care directly to patients. This weekend reinforced why I chose community oncology, and it was special to welcome home one of its pioneers, Dr. Lee Schwartzberg.
As a founder of West Cancer Center, Dr. Schwartzberg helped build the foundation of community oncology in Memphis. His vision in founding journals and establishing institutions prioritizing research in community settings created a model many of us still follow today. Having him back in Memphis felt like a full-circle moment for the oncology community.
Special thanks to co-chairs Dr. Jason Chandler, Dr. Gregory Vidal, and Dr. Brad Somer for including me. The oncology ecosystem you’ve continued to build here aligns perfectly with what we’re building at St. Elizabeth, and I’m excited about future collaborations.
To the Total Health Oncology team – your attention to detail made this an exceptional experience from start to finish.
Capping off the conference, Sylvia and Steve Richey treated us to an incredible evening at Restaurant Iris. The kitchen tour, perfect hospitality, and Amandine (!) were unforgettable.”
