Nicola di Flora represented the International Cancer Patient Coalition at the 9th Annual ELLOK Conference

International Cancer Patient Coalition (ICPC) shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Athens, February 6th, 2025: Represented by Nicola di Flora, the International Cancer Patient Coalition attended the 9th Annual ELLOK Conference, held from February 3rd to 5th in Athens.

Organized by the Hellenic Cancer Federation/ELLOK, this pivotal event gathered key stakeholders to discuss how to move ‘From Planning to Implementation’ in oncology care.

Nicola’s message centered on the 3Is – Innovation, Investment, and Incentives – drawing inspiration from the EU’s transformative Align, Act, Accelerate: Research, Technology, and Innovation to Boost European Competitiveness and Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan: A New EU Approach to Prevention, Treatment, and Care.

Timed with World Cancer Day, the conference fostered crucial dialogue on policy advancements, equitable access to innovation, and collaborative solutions. A key moment came when Nicola met with the Greek Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, emphasizing the need to integrate the 3Is framework into both national and EU-wide cancer strategies.

Their discussion focused on:

  • Innovation in diagnostics, treatments, and digital health tools to address gaps in care.
  • Investment in sustainable healthcare systems to accelerate patient access to new breakthroughs.
  • Incentives to promote collaboration among regulators, industry, and clinicians to shape the future of cancer care.

Nicola stressed the importance of policies that incentivize risk-taking in R&D, streamline regulatory pathways, and prioritize healthcare professional education. He noted: ‘Without systemic incentives, even the brightest innovations risk gathering dust. We need frameworks that turn scientific advancements into tangible benefits for patients.’

The conference set the stage for concrete actions, including ICPC’s 2025 agenda:

  • Policy Roundtables with to further refine R&D incentives.
  • FutureProofing Exhibitions highlighting successful 3Is projects.
  • Oncology Dialogues at Congresses to align the 3Is framework with real-world clinical needs.

As Nicola concluded: ‘Cancer care cannot wait for perfect systems—it needs bold, decisive steps. Let’s harness the 3Is to turn today’s discussions into tomorrow’s cures.’

A heartfelt thank you to ELLOK and George Kapetanakis for hosting this transformative event, and to all leaders, clinicians, and advocates driving progress. Together, we’re not just planning – we’re implementing a future where innovation flourishes, investments save lives, and incentives foster meaningful change.”
