On February 5th, 2025, in commemoration of World Cancer Day, we had the honor of attending the NICRAT Symposium at the Abuja Continental Hotel—a gathering of key stakeholders, policymakers, and advocates united in the fight against cancer.
The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including:

- Professor Usman Aliyu, Director General of NICRAT, who emphasized the role of research and innovation in cancer control.
- Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, Minister of State for FCT, highlighting the importance of accessible cancer care across communities. Federal Capital Territory Administration
- Dr. Rakiya Saidu, Senior Clinical Research Officer at the University of Cape Town, who delivered a compelling keynote speech on “One Goal, Many Stories: Uniting Efforts for Inclusive Cancer Solutions.”
This symposium served as a powerful platform for expert discussions, groundbreaking research, and inspiring personal stories, all aimed at shaping policies to improve cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment in Nigeria.
Dr. Salako’s words resonated deeply:
“Cancer remains a significant public health burden, affecting individuals, families, and communities. However, we are not helpless in this fight. The Federal Government is committed to strengthening cancer care services, expanding screening programs, improving access to treatment, and ensuring equitable healthcare delivery.”
At Medicaid Cancer Foundation, we stand firm in our mission to close the care gap and ensure that every Nigerian, regardless of location or socioeconomic status, has access to quality cancer care.
Together, we can build a future where no one has to face cancer alone.
Join us in this fight!”
