By 2030, we aim to bridge cancer gaps, improve outcomes, and unify care across MENA – International Cancer Patient Coalition
International Cancer Patient Coalition shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Cancer is a growing public health challenge in the MENA region, with rising rates of lung, breast, and liver cancers. The region faces several barriers: late diagnoses, healthcare disparities and environmental risks like tobacco use and air pollution. Tackling these issues requires a unified, strategic approach.
At BGICC 2025, the largest cancer conference in Africa and the Middle East, ICPC had the honor of co-hosting the “High-Level Summit: From Unity, Strength: A Regional Pact for Cancer Care”. This summit culminated in the signing of the Declaration of Cooperation, a landmark agreement that unites MENA countries in a shared commitment to improve cancer prevention, early detection, and access to timely treatment.
By uniting countries to adopt coordinated strategies, this initiative is set to transform cancer care.
The Declaration of Cooperation sets a clear path forward to:
- Strengthen healthcare systems across the region.
- Reduce disparities in cancer care access, especially in low-income and conflict-affected countries.
- Prioritize prevention, including robust tobacco control and improved air quality to reduce environmental risks.
- Enhance early detection and expand screening programs for at-risk populations.
- Ensure equitable access to life-saving treatments like immunotherapy and precision medicine.
We are grateful to the leadership of Dr. Hesham ElGhazaly and the collaboration of stakeholders from across MENA. Their dedication, alongside contributions from global experts, is transforming cancer care systems in MENA and paving the way for a healthier future for millions.
With the Declaration in place, we’re excited to turn commitments into action. By 2030, we aim to address the disparities in cancer care, improve outcomes for patients, and build a unified, patient-centered cancer care network across MENA and beyond.
The journey doesn’t end here. Stay tuned as we continue to work together to ensure no one is left behind in the fight against cancer. Together, we can make a lasting impact!”
