“A Historic Step Forward in Cancer Care for the MENA Region
The signing of the Declaration of Cooperation by the Organizations of the MENA Region marks a pivotal moment in the fight against cancer. This bold commitment to collective action will transform the landscape of cancer care, prevention, treatment, and innovation across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
Key Objectives and Action Points of the Declaration:
– Unified Cancer Care Coordination: Establishing a Unified Coordination Platform to facilitate cross-border collaboration, share best practices, and reduce disparities in care.
– Strengthening Healthcare Systems: Addressing gaps in prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, and palliative care, with a focus on vulnerable populations, including those in conflict-affected areas.
– Commitment to Innovation: Emphasizing the Freedom to Lead Framework, empowering the MENA region to chart its own path in addressing cancer, driving digital health, precision medicine, and research initiatives.
– Investment in Cancer Control: Coordinated efforts to boost investments in prevention, treatment, and research—ultimately improving health outcomes and economic productivity.
– Collaboration Across Sectors: A whole-of-society approach, engaging governments, healthcare professionals, civil society, and the private sector, ensuring no one is left behind.
This Declaration of Cooperation is a game-changer. It reflects the MENA region’s dedication to addressing one of the world’s most pressing public health challenges through collaboration, innovation, and shared commitment.
Next Steps: With a roadmap now in place, we are poised to implement action-oriented solutions, ensuring long-term impact. ICPC, the Egyptian Cancer Society ECS and other signatories will lead the way in making these goals a reality.
Together, we can ensure a future where cancer care in the MENA region is more effective, accessible, and equitable for all.”
