Wafaa M Rashed: Impact of the PAPERI Policy Advocacy Course on Young African Scientists

Wafaa M Rashed, Founder of MicroRNA Childhood Cancer Catalog (M3Cs) and Lecturer at Faculty of pharmacy Ahram Canadian University, shared a post by Taahirah Ben Zinat, laboratory Technologist at Clinique Darne, on LinkedIn, adding:

“Highlighting the Impact of the PAPERI Policy Advocacy Course on Young African Scientists.

The Policy Advocacy in Genetics and Genomics course, hosted by PAPERI, continues to inspire and empower Young African scientists, fostering their growth and expanding their horizons in groundbreaking ways.

A shining example is Taahirah Goolbar from Mauritius, who recently shared a heartfelt reflection on her experience. As someone new to the fields of genomics and bioinformatics, Taahirah Ben Zinat expressed immense gratitude for the course, which provided her with valuable knowledge and fresh perspectives.

In her own words, “This course gave me new ways to think, and I’m dreaming of becoming part of this movement in the future.” Her reflection highlights how the course not only equips participants with skills but also sparks a vision for the future of genetics and genomics on the continent.

Taahirah’s journey underscores the transformative potential of initiatives like PAPERI in creating a network of dedicated advocates ready to champion policy advancements in genetics across Africa.

We are thrilled to see such passion and look forward to seeing Taahirah and others like her lead impactful collaborations in the future!”

Quoting Taahirah Ben Zinat‘s post:

“It is with great pleasure that I am writing this reflection; as a first of its kind. I usually reflect so much on what I have learnt but never got the opportunity to express my gratitude to the course provider. Thank you Dr Wafaa M Rashed.

Being new to the genomic and Bioinformatics, I have learnt a lot in the “Policy Advocacy on Genetics and Genomics” course.

In Mauritius, nothing such has been mandated yet and this course gave me new ways to think and I’m also dreaming of becoming part of this movement in the future.

I’ll continue working to be part of PAPERI and look forward to other productive collaborations in the future.”
