Humaid Al-Shamsi: Patients may forget the details of what we say, but they will always remember how we made them feel
Humaid Al-Shamsi, Founder and Director of Medical Oncology at Burjeel Medical City, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“In our journey of making a difference on a larger scale in the medical field, it’s easy to overlook the profound impact we can have on smaller & an individual level.
Sometimes, spending just 1-2 minutes with a patient might feel insignificant to us, but for a sick or vulnerable person, it can be a moment that restores their sense of dignity and care.
As I continue my medical journey, I’m reminded time and again that small gestures—taking a moment to listen, offering a kind word, or simply being present—can transform a patient’s experience.
Patients may forget the details of what we say, but they will always remember how we made them feel.
Let’s never underestimate the power of compassion in our daily interactions with our patients.”
