Isabel Mestres: Highlighting the C/Can Model – Advocating for Local Voices in Global Health in Davos

Isabel Mestres, CEO of the City Cancer Challenge, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Excited to be in Davos again this year, sharing about how City Cancer Challenge city-based Model works and the improvements that extend beyond cancer care and strengthens entire health systems in LMICs.

The annual World Economic Forum meeting in Davos offers a unique chance to highlight that more than ever, following Trump’s news,  we need a united global health approach that responds to local needs vs donors’ interest!

But I must confess, Davos isn’t exactly my favorite destination. While others arrive by helicopter, I’m hopping between trains and shuffling through snow to get to meetings. I guess it is part of the adventure or maybe a metaphor for the uphill climb civil society organizations (CSOs) face to make their voices heard.

The Forum provides a platform for important conversations, but let’s be honest—CSOs are often relegated to the sidelines. Despite the undeniable impact we bring, we’re still waiting for the day when impact—not money or power—determines who gets a seat at the main stage.

Despite the hassles to reach Davos25, I’m inspired by the chance to showcase the C/Can model and push for greater recognition of the voices that truly matter. If we’re serious about collaboration in the intelligence, we need to ensure that every voice—especially those driving change on the ground—is not only heard but truly valued.

PS: see reality picture at the end!

Sorry Katie Dain.”
