“Last December, I had the pleasure of spending two inspiring days with Prof. Giuseppe Curigliano at the IEO Istituto Europeo di Oncologia. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn about their state-of-the-art comprehensive cancer center. I had the chance to spend full day in ward and clinic which was a great exposure on how the clinical work flow works in Italy.
I was particularly impressed by the institute’s robust research infrastructure, active clinical trials, cutting-edge proton therapy center, and advanced CAR T-cell therapy program.

Prof. Humaid Al Shamsi is the Founder and Director of Medical Oncology at Burjeel Medical City and Chief Executive Officer of Burjeel Cancer Institute. He serves as President of the Emirates Oncology Society and Adjunct Clinical Professor of Oncology at the University of Sharjah. Prof. Humaid holds board certifications from the USA, Canada, and the UK in medical oncology and internal medicine. Recognized as the sole certified Gastrointestinal Oncologist in the UAE, his practice focuses on various solid tumors, including breast, colon, gastric, and lung cancers. Additionally, he’s the first UAE national trained in palliative care, and he actively advises governmental committees to improve cancer care standards in the UAE and the region.
